Worker Safety and Mental Wellbeing for growers and workforce has been at the forefront of the minds of many in our industry over the last few years, with Fruit Growers Victoria continuing to take a leading role in developing training materials for use in the horticulture industry.
What have we been up to?
- Working with local industry and multicultural community representatives to develop two training videos on Cherry Pickers and Cold Rooms, as well as worksheets for the respective videos.
- Collaborating with Warren Davies (The Unbreakable Farmer), to deliver mental health and wellbeing training to our members and build their ability to recognise mental health issues.
- Expanding our social media channels, and outreach, to enhance visibility of the organisation, and our safety training videos.
Our why:
- Whether you work in an office, or out on the farms, everyone deserves a safe workplace, and every worker should understand how to do their role safely.
- We understand how vital the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities are to our industries workforce, and we believe that they deserve to have proper materials to understand the safety training that their English-native peers can access.
- Growers have continued to struggle with mental health and wellbeing, and the stigma around this issue has prevented many from being able to access resources and supports they need, providing an industry based and peer-based workshop was fundamental for engaging our growers and workforce in building their mental resilience.
