Mites: Now is the time to check for two spotted mites, European Red Mite, Bryobia mite and the level of predatory mite. If your spray program has not been as IPM friendly (Carbaryl for thinning applied) as you would like then try to apply a miticide while levels are low. Scout levels of leaves infested and leaves with predatory mites. Weather will determine how quickly two spotted mite damage will increase especially in pears.
STH VIC
Woolly aphid: always a problem in sth vic with mild temps and less parasitic wasps present where chemical apple thinning has been applied. Monitor A. Mali numbers and try to apply controls to Woolly that are not detrimental to A. Mali populations.
Codling Moth: Watch 2nd generation numbers and maintain coversprays, noticing that a lot of Southern Vic growers are no longer using mating disruption and there overall trap numbers and Codling Moth numbers have increased. Mating disruption is a key tool for maintaining and IPM program with current chemicals available.
