Grave Concerns on Opening Date of Melbourne Market at Epping
Fruit Growers Victoria Ltd is concerned that the new Melbourne Wholesale Market is not ready or safe to open as scheduled on 3 August. There are real and immediate health and safety risks to market users.
For the market to be safe and operational we need to see the following issues resolved before the opening of the new location;
- All set up is completed – it is still an active work site
- Forklift traffic ways are dangerously narrow, not allowing for passing other forklifts
- Truck and forklift parking still not finalised
- Estimated only 75 -80% stores finished with fit out – 25% unfinished
- Market staff working exceptionally long hours then trying to manage morning peak hour traffic.
Fruit Grower Victoria demands that the opening of the Melbourne Market be delayed until these safety issues are addressed and resolved.
