The National Fruit Fly Strategy (NFFS) is a national initiative aimed at improving Australia's management of Fruit Fly of which HIA is a major contributor.
The aim of the NFFS is to develop a viable, cost-effective and sustainable national approach to fruit fly management, with commitment from all stakeholders. The strategy applies to all native and exotic species of fruit fly and across the present-day biosecurity field from pre-border to farm level.
Sterile Insect Technology (SIT) is a scientifically proven method for managing the potential impacts of fruit fly in horticulture production areas. A recent research collaboration between key stakeholders in Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) research in Australia has seen a research group be assembled, called SITplus. The primary aim of this collaboration between the research institutes is to ensure the best outcomes for growers.
