Horticulture growers around Australia say the recent amendment to the Horticulture Award, designed to protect workers, is making them “unaffordable” and stripping workers of their of hours of work. A casual packhouse worker has taken her fight to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to have the changes overturned. The application lodged with the FWC seeks to change the Horticulture Award to remove the obligation for employers to pay casual staff a 175 per cent loading in certain conditions.
Fruit Growers Victoria are aware of the impact these changes have had on Victoria’s fruit growing business and their employees and intend to lodge a submission to support this proposal on behalf of growers, but to do this we need your help!
Please join the FGV zoom meeting (details below) so that we can get your feedback on the effect these changes are having on your organisation and what changes you would like to see put in place.
