Victoria is the major growing area of apples and pears in Australia. Victoria produces 40 per cent of Australia’s apples and 90 per cent of the nation’s pears.

Victorian orchards produced around 104,002 tonnes of apples in 2008 [down from 115,584 in 2007] and 113,308 tonnes of pears [down from 119,230 in 2007].

The main varieties of apples grown in Victoria are: Cripps Pink (sold as Pink Lady™) Granny Smith Gala Cripps Red (sold as Sundowner™)

The main growing regions in Victoria are the Goulburn Valley, Yarra Valley, Gippsland, Mornington Peninsula and the North East.  click here for more information on growing regions.

Grower Membership is available to Fruit growers Victoria Ltd [FGVL] is available to any apple and pear grower in Victoria.  Affiliate membership is offered to agricultural business that support the fruit industry.  There is also a subscription membership available where the weekly E newsletter is emailed to this level of membership as well as Growers and Affiliates.

FGVL continues to deal with a wide range of current issues that have the potential to impact on  fruit growers as well as providing a range of services to growers and specific benefits to members
